Using Inventory information and Queries
You can use inventory information in different ways:
- Create a Query and use it's result as list of computers for your installation request
- Create Software and Hardware dependencies for Products to enforce minimum system's requirements
- Use inventory data elements for dynamic customization of answer files and scripts
Queries is very powerful mechanism to streamline daily operations. One way of thinking about Queries is as Computer Groups with dynamic list of participants. Unlike Groups, the resulting list of computers is defined not at the time when you create the Query, but immediately before Job execution. So, if there if you scheduled a Job for next weekend night and there is a new computer in the system that did not exist at the time the Job (or the Query) was crated, new installation Job would perform requested action on it as well.
Here is an example of Query that would return all Computers where Vendor is IBM:

When you press the "View Query Results" button it will show all Computers that satisfy this Query at this moment. As discussed, actual result might be different at the Job execution time.
